Lomi lomi massage means loving touch, a connection between heart, hand and soul with the Source of all life. The purpose is to revive the body, to move blood and lymph, to open spasms and remove waste materials from the muscles and connective tissues.
I am often asked, "How is lomi different from other massages?" ...if your hands are gentle and loving, your patient will feel the sincerity of your heart and the Lord's healing will flow through you both. By Aunty Margaret Machado
Lomi is: a massage for those aches and pains. Both the giver and receiver work closely together to become one. Which means that the muscles are first warmed with gentle pressure to relax the self and then deeper pressure is applied to clean the bones. What ever is the problem or condition, the focus remains on desired outcome with the power of intention. We are not alone. The Aloha Spirit or Loving Hands soothes the body, reduces the hurt, eases the aches and pains like an ocean's breath over a sandy beach. The body worker uses her fingers, thumbs as well as the palms of her hands in long flowing strokes to help free the energy blocks, make the body soft and promote abundant energy (Mana) or forgiveness (Ho'oponopono) to flow toward the heart.
The benefit of which is, the whole person is loved unconditionally. It is truly a gift from the heart, the Hawaiian way.
How it's performed: The massage usually begins with the practitioners hands gently resting on the clients back. The practitioner will say a blessing, prayer, or Hawaiian pule asking for whatever healing is needed to take place during the massage. As well, the client may be asked to set their intention for any healing they wish to receive. The body worker then thinks intuitively with the recipient warming up the muscles, connective tissue, and deep into the bones where most memory is stored from past traumas, injuries or emotional relationships for a powerful healing experience.
According to Ancient Hawaiian Tradition, Ha means breath and Wai means water or life. Hawaii means breathing life into the body. Heart works (Puke hana) massage is more than kneading. It is moving towards the balancing of the Ying and Yang duality of the male and female in oneself. It is the quieting of the mind and allowing the energy to flow through you. The room is heated to 80 degrees for a sauna like sweat, massage oil moisturizes the skin, nutritional herbs (la'au) rejuvenate the internal organs, and huli (oil) the opu (stomach) soothes the gurgles and bubbles in the lower intestine.
The Hawaiian Healing Secret is: After your LomiLomi, there is no rush to get off the massage table and go home. One can linger a few minutes longer, if you wish.
